Here is the Shovel as we found it at Harbour City Harley-Davidson, cosmetically not too bad but tired mechanicals as might be expected for its age. Given the many kilometres I intend to do on it, a rebuild was the best option.
Here is the Shovel near Glenrowan, Victoria, on its shakedown cruise participating in the 50th Anniversary Electra Glide Run. New S&S engine, new Baker Drivetrain 6-into-4 gearbox, new fork springs and fork tubes along with new rear shockers from Progressive Suspension, Klock Werks FLARE windscreen. The bike has been completely rebuilt and rewired by Hyperformance Cycles SA Choppers thanks to Andy and Adam.
Having completed the Adelaide/Darwin/Adelaide runs, during the break between these runs and the Adelaide/Sydney/Perth/Adelaide runs, Electra Betty (as she became affectionately known) needed some further mechanical work done and while this work was being completed, the opportunity arose for her to receive a complete custom paint job. The new paint scheme attracted many favourable compliments as progressive photos were posted during their production. Heavy Duty Magazine published the story of Electra Betty's new facelift and you can read the articles here as Part 1 and Part 2.
The date of 3 May 2016 was then scheduled to roll out of the driveway for the completion of the Southern Cross Ride for Depression Awareness.
